Seven Essential Things that Every Person Must Bring to Their Apartment for Rent

There are many essential items that an apartment for rent does not have by default. While apartments do usually have an oven, refrigerator, shower, two sinks, and a toilet, they will not have certain things that we need in our everyday life.

An apartment for rent, even with furnishings, can be bare bones in terms of what they give you besides the necessities to make it habitable plus a few extra luxuries that are provided to you if the apartment is furnished.

Here is our list of essentials that you must bring to your apartment on move-in day.

Cleaning Supplies

There will many objects that you must clean in your apartment. Toilet cleaner, shower cleaner, and dishwashing liquid are our basic recommendations. No one, including you, will like a dirty bathroom or dirty dishes.

These cleaning supplies will not be included with even a furnished apartment, which means that you must supply them yourself. If you are not familiar with how do use these supplies, living in an apartment for rent is about as good a time as any to learn how to use them.

Dust Rag

Apartments accumulate dust if they are not cleaned. Every furniture object from chairs to bookcases will accumulate dust. Even your books will accumulate dust. There is almost no surface where dust cannot touch, so make sure to bring a dust rag and any other dusting supplies that you want to bring.

Dust rags are more versatile then dusting supplies that you throw out after use. They can be washed and wrung out and used many times over again before they either must be washed heavily or thrown out. Machine washing is not recommended as these can interfere with a dust rag’s ability to pick up dust, which is its primary purpose.

Vacuum

When you cook in your apartment, you will eventually make a mess. Dirt will accumulate on your floor. The carpet will eventually become soiled. You will need a vacuum to clean up after yourself and the messes, accidentally or not, that you make.

Silverware

Silverware and other utensils are needed in an apartment unless your apartment comes fully furnished. You will need them to eat your food because not every food that you make will be eaten by hand. We recommended 10 forks, 10 spoons, and 5 knives per every one member of your household.

We recommend this measurement because the standard set of silverware comes with 5 large and small forks and 5 large and small spoons. There are also 5 knives in a standard set. Simply multiply that measurement by the number of people that are living in the apartment.

Glassware

Glassware is needed to drink liquids. Unless your apartment came fully furnished, you will need a set of cups and other glasses to drink from. While this may seem obvious, it is amazing the sort of things that people will forget when they move in.

Filing Cabinet

If you are going to work in your area, you will need a filing cabinet. The filing cabinet can also be used to store different kinds of sensitive materials from medical records to utility bills. Unless you want all your paper out in the open, a filing cabinet is recommended to cut down on clutter.

Bookshelves

You will not have bookshelves in your apartment for rent unless it comes fully furnished. So, unless you want your books to cover the entire area of your room, we suggest that you bring bookshelves. It will also help cut down on clutter.

Conclusion

From bookshelves to filing cabinets and glassware to silverware, if you are going to move into an apartment to rent, you need very important items to bring with you. They will help you eat, clean, and cut down on clutter. The most important items are those that will help you eat, while the items that are not as important are those that will help you cut down on clutter.
